Domestic Violence

In recent years, domestic violence has become a pressing issue, as evidenced by the response from many sectors of society. Hotlines, information centers, grassroots movements, prevention fund sites, and abuse shelters all focus on ridding society of domestic violence. The Internet is rife with sites addressing domestic violence in one way or another. Consequently, it’s not surprising that the American Bar Association has also established a Commission on Domestic Violence.

According to the State Bar of California, “Domestic violence is behavior driven by a need to control. It can range from threats, annoying telephone calls and stalking (such as following the victim to and from work, and threatening the victim), to unwanted sexual touching and hitting. It also can be defined as one spouse destroying the other’s personal property. “A domestic relationship could involve a spouse, ex-spouse, co-habitant, ex-cohabitant, a date, fiancé or fiancée, a person with whom you have had a child, or someone related by blood or marriage.

Many people have no idea of their domestic rights, nor do they understand as victims, through the right legal representation they can reclaim their lives.

Those wrongly accused of domestic violence, have a tough road ahead to prove their innocence. Stiffer laws make domestic violence cases more difficult to defend.
