Juvenile Dependency
A Juvenile Dependency case commences when the Department of Children’s and Family Services (formerly known as CPS) receives information that a child may have been abused, neglected, or otherwise put in harm’s way. In this case, the Department files a Petition with the court, asking that the child become a dependent of the court. Once filed, the Petition must be heard within two days.
It is advisable that the parents or the caretakers of the child seek legal advice and representation during the early stages of the process. Elainie Honjas will walk you through the maze of the dependency proceedings and make sure that your family receives the appropriate services so that your child(ren) can be returned to you as expeditiously as possible.
